Become a More Human Leader

Challenge 

According to a recent report from Gartner, “only 29% of employees believe their leader exhibits human leadership.” To prevent this trend from taking hold in their organization, a Fortune 500 financial services company reached out to us to design a three-hour experience for their leadership team to explore developing qualities of a “human leader” around being authentic, trustworthy, and adaptive. 

Solution

The objectives of this program, Human Leadership Essentials, included understanding the necessity of developing a more “human leader” approach through key data and insights, developing more authenticity, empathy, and adaptability in the leadership team, and defining a leadership vision and accountability approach. 

This engaging and dynamic three-hour workshop opened with a “We are Human” session—a deep dive into personal leadership inspiration, clarifying personal values, and understanding how stress impacts performance and relationships. The second part of the workshop provided time for participants to better understand the behaviors of trust and how to develop empathy around the experience of your teammates. In the third area of focus, we then helped leaders from this firm explore focused examples of their business challenges and how leaders can be more adaptive and purpose driven in their solutions and approach. The session concluded by  developing a leadership vision and commitment to areas of growth.

Result

The 60 participants who engaged with this custom design went home with printed and digital toolkits to run bite-sized versions of these sessions with their teams. Through understanding their own values, the values of their team, developing trust-based relationships through courage and credibility, and collaboratively designing solutions to tough challenges, leaders can become more authentic, trustworthy, and adaptive, and inspire those traits in their teams.
