About first things first:
First Things First (FTF), a nonprofit organization located in Chattanooga, TN, believes that everyone should have access to the healthy relationship skills they need. Dedicated to providing research-based resources to equip individuals with healthy relationship skills to live better lives, FTF seeks to increase marital health and positive parental involvement. Through face-to-face programming, one-on-one coaching sessions, and digital resources, FTF assists individuals, couples, and parents to identify obstacles that keep them from creating deep connections and provide a plan to build stronger relationships. The organization’s long-term vision is that those skills will be passed down from generation to generation, breaking cycles of relationship dysfunction and creating positive change.
The Challenge
As a nonprofit focused on strengthening families and relationships, the Covid-19 pandemic presented a unique challenge and an opportunity for First Things First (FTF). The organization had a desire to shift their audience to low income, at-risk families while also needing to increase digital content. In doing so, FTF sought to align their local programming in Chattanooga, TN with global digital initiatives.
The Solution
In the strategic planning process, Bridge Innovate helped FTF to develop a strategic approach to understanding their audience through interviews, observations, and exploring a customer journey map across relationship and parenting services. By using a collaborative approach, the FTF Design Team worked across initiatives to better understand the customer, their needs, the current and future iteration of services and programs offered locally and globally, as well as the operational needs to deliver.
The Result
FTF’s new strategic plan moves forward with growing the synergistic operations of the team's local impact and their global digital content by exploring how to define, measure, and track success that is adaptive to the needs of the community, in both the rapidly changing digital environment and the community needs in person. This approach included a vision and a set of strategic initiatives to deliver on that vision.
Alongside this initiative, FTF also developed a detailed implementation plan, including attainable actions and the resources required to fully realize the strategy.
